Football, Staph & MRSA

September 3rd, 2010

The new football season is upon us; most high schools teams started last week, college teams start this week & the NFL is just a little over 6 days away.  With the new football season starting, the fight to keep the players healthy starts as well; and not just from injuries.  One of the biggest problems football teams face each season is the nasty bacteria staph and the super staph MRSA.  Some schools have already reported players with staph infections.  Staph and MRSA is usually fairly easily treated with antibiotics & patients fully recover but MRSA can be deadly.  There have been cases where athletes infected with MRSA have ended in death from this nasy bacteria.

We at Pure Green Solutions can help football teams and athletic departments in combating these germs as well as others.  Our Green/Non-toxic disinfectant PureGreen24 and our Green/Non-toxic sanitizer San-A-Safe, kill staph and MRSA in 2 minutes or less of contact.  PureGreen24 also has a 24 hour residual effect.  Let us know if we can help keep your athletes & facilities germ free without using toxic chemicals.

What’s Green at the Garden?

July 2nd, 2010

We recently attended an event hosted by the Green Chamber of the South & BOMA Atlanta at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.  During this event we learned about how Green the garden is and we aren’t just talking about the plants.  The Atlanta Botanical Garden recently opened the second phase of a $55 million Green expansion which was backed by an unyielding commitment to environmental stewardship, conservation and vital research.  The new structures, designed by architectural firm Jova/Daniels/Busby, incorporate environmental initiatives while re-orienting the garden for better synergy with Piedmont Park

The Hardin Visitor Center is a LEED-certified building that is partially built into the hillside to aid in natural heating and cooling.  In addition, plants cover about 35% of the 9,300-square-foot pavilion roof, and natural ventilation means the lobby can operate as an open-air environment most of the year. And speaking of the green roof, plantings covering the visitor center provide natural cooling, sound insulation, additional garden area for visitors and even a new wildlife habitat.

The seven level SAGE parking facility , which is shared with visitors of Piedmont Park, is located just steps from the visitor center.  The facility is nestled into a hillside and is sheltered by a roof of native foliage, flowering vines and suspended planter boxes.  As a result, the structure is not only beautiful, but it also returns 3.6 acres of previously paved area to green space.

Athletics Going Green

June 18th, 2010

As we here at Pure Green Solutions continue to work with several different industries with our Green cleaning products, one of these in particular continues to grow with more & more clients; that industry is athletics.  More & more athletic departments are realizing that they can better protect their athletes from issues like staph, MRSA & other nasty germs by using Green cleaning products.  One of the many advantages of using Green products is knowing that they are using products that aren’t harmful to the athletes, but what has grabbed the attention the most for the athletic departments is the fact that our products are more effective than our toxic counterparts.

The three main products being used the most are our disinfectant PureGreen24, our sanitizer San-A-Safe and our carpet cleaner Carpet Stain BusterPureGreen24 is great for fighting staph & MRSA quickly, within 2 minutes of contact, and because of the 24 hour residual effect.  San-A-Safe is our best all around product due to its quick kill time on germs as well as being a great NSF approved cleaner.  You might wonder why Carpet Stain Buster is popular with athletic departments.  Do that many athletic facilities have that much carpet?  No, the use that has become popular in athletics with our Carpet Stain Buster is its ability to instantly remove blood from uniforms & jerseys.  So now when an athlete gets blood on his or her jersey they can apply Carpet Stain Buster to remove the blood so they can get back in the game.  And most importantly they are using a Green/Non-toxic product to do so.

Be sure to check out a testimonial letter submitted to Pure Green Solutions on how on Athletic Department has found success in using our products.  Click Shorter College Testimonial Letter 2010 or the picture above.  Let us know how we may help you!

Zipcars

June 4th, 2010

Are you familiar with Zipcars?  According to Wikipedia, Zipcar is a for-profit, membership-based carsharing company providing automobile rental to its members, billable by the hour or day.  There are over 6,500 Zipcars in 28 North American states & provinces as well as London, England.  There are several benefits to using Zipcars but what intrigued us the most were the many different Green benefits.

According to Zipcar’s website  you can start using their cars in 4 easy steps.  1.) It only takes a few minutes to apply online.  Once you’re approved, you get your very own Zipcard.  2.) Reserve one of their cars – for a couple of hours or the entire day.  You can do it online or use a phone.  3.) Walk to the car, then just hold your Zipcard to the window.  The doors unlock, and it’s all yours.  4.) Drive away… and return to the same reserved parking spot at the end of your reservation.  It’s that simple.  And the gas & insurance are included.  You can also check out this comical “How It Works” Video

ZipCar, Inc. was founded in 2000 and filed on Tuesday for a $75 million initial public offering.  Be sure to check them out & see if it is a good fit for you individually or for your company.

“Green” Goes Racing

May 21st, 2010

You can’t escape the popularity and excitement of NASCAR and as the racing industry as a whole continues to work on its sustainability initiatives; Get Green Racing is the first green mission NASCAR team program. Get Green Racing’s goal is developing a winning combination for the planet and for racing. It is the vision of long time NASCAR owner Frank Cicci, he knows the sport must change and provide different types of programs that of course increase sales, recruit distributors, build brand awareness but also should be able to educate and encourage better choices.  And partnered with Kris Moorman, a long time sustainable marketing/business consultant and CSRwire.com, the leading source of corporate social responsibility and sustainability news, events and information, they are developing a marketing platform for several teams in all three NASCAR series that can carry these messages.

Get Green Racing will harness the power of NASCAR to create, encourage and educate this massive mainstream audience of over 75 million Americans to “go green” and make better choices in their home and businesses.

As a team, Get Green Racing will work to be as sustainable as possible:

  • CSRwire.com is our media content distribution partner extending our reach and providing other rich multimedia content opportunities.
  • Get Green Racing vehicles will be offset on the track.
  • The race team hauler will use biofuels whenever possible.
  • The car decals will be made from recycled materials.
  • The team’s apparel program will be provided by a leading active wear company who has a strong fair trade policy and has an organic clothing line.
  • Media kits will be provided electronically whenever possible and for print kits 100% recycled materials and responsible design will be utilized.
  • The team will be as sustainable as possible with waste to reclaim policies, responsible travel, and doing as much as possible to encourage other teams to follow suit.
  • We are developing a program that will plant trees or participate with a local environmental group in every community we race.
  • Get Green Racing will set up ways to track the team’s savings i.e. CO2, water, waste.

As we can see with this example almost any industry can look to be Green and Sustainable.  Let us know if we can help you, your company or industry in going Green & Sustainable.

Tainted Lettuce due to E-coli

May 14th, 2010

Over the past couple of weeks we have started to hear more & more about outbreaks of E-coli from Romaine lettuce.  Some lettuce distributors have had to recall all their Romaine lettuce.  While E-coli isn’t usually life threatening it can cause kidney failure which can be fatal.

We at Pure Green Solutions have a product, Fresh Wash Produce, that helps not only extend  shelf-life of fresh fruits and vegetables up to double the normal shelf-life but also eliminates pathogens such as Listeria, Salmonella and E-Coli. Pure Green Solution’s Fresh Wash Produce is made from 100% all-natural ingredients which improves organoleptic qualities such as flavor, appearance and aroma.

Be sure to check out the latest article from WebMD on the E-Coli outbreak below:
